Studio D’Artisan reimagines the classic MA-1 Flight Jacket through the lens of traditional Japanese craftsmanship with the 4599 Kakishibu MA-1. This version of the iconic aviator jacket is crafted from heavyweight cotton, treated with kakishibu dye - a centuries-old Japanese method using fermented persimmon tannins aged for three years. They dip dye the jacket and wring it 2-3 times before repeating the whole process 7-8 times. The result is a deep, earthy patina that develops even more character with wear, ensuring each jacket is entirely unique.
Staying true to the MA-1’s iconic design, this jacket features a ribbed collar, cuffs, and hem, ensuring a secure, structured fit. The bronze-toned liner nods to vintage aviation aesthetics while providing a subtle contrast to the naturally dyed outer shell. The heavy-duty two-way zipper adds durability and function, allowing for easy layering. Side-entry hand pockets provide practicality, while the signature utility pocket on the sleeve stays true to the MA-1’s roots.
By merging Japanese textile traditions with a timeless military staple, Studio D’Artisan delivers a jacket that balances heritage craftsmanship with everyday wearability, making it an instant standout in any wardrobe.

Fit Notes: Studio has a really trim fit in general. While these jackets have boxy arms and chest, we're still going to recommend sizing up once to get the body length right. Tommy is wearing a size 44 in this jacket. You can see it has that boxy fit overall, but sits perfectly at the waist. If he were looking for a more tailored fit, he could probably size down tot he 42. Tommy is 5'10," 165lbs with a 40" chest.
